BBC news presenter Joanne Malin will return to Lichfield Garrick this Christmas to play the Evil Queen Evilene in Snow White and the Magic Mirror.

The Midlands Today anchor said, “I'm delighted to have been asked to return to the Garrick and be part of what looks set to be a lovely family pantomime.

“Journalists are often accused of bringing people only bad news and this Christmas there’ll be no good news from me, as this time I'm the baddie and I’m really looking forward to being bad!

“The good people of Staffordshire will see a side of me they've never seen before and I look forward to hearing some very loud booing from panto lovers.”

Joanne Malin played Fairy Godmother in the theatre’s 2007 production of Cinderella and Fairy Bow Bells in its 2008 production of Dick Whittington.

Adrian Jackson, Lichfield Garrick’s chief executive and artistic director, said, “I’m delighted to welcome Joanne back to the team and look forward to working with her in this very different role.

“Once again we have a very exciting festive treat planned with all the fun of a traditional pantomime, including spectacular scenery and costumes and a dazzling musical score, in a show for the whole family.”

Snow White and the Magic Mirror will mark a return to the traditional pantomime format and will feature Lichfield’s Ian Adams as Dame Fraulein Strudel.

Snow White and the Magic Mirror runs at the Garrick from Thursday 5 December until Sunday 5 January.
