The Courtyard Hereford’s annual children’s Christmas show is to go ahead with a difference, with a live stream of Hansel and Gretel from its main stage.
David Durant, the Courtyard’s associate director, said, “after having to postpone our Christmas pantomime, we’re overjoyed to be able to stage this fantastic family show. Our Christmas show has a much smaller cast so is a lot more viable for us to stage in these difficult times.
“We’re very much looking forward to bringing this delightful children's story to life and giving the families in our community something to enjoy.”
The show will be available on a pay-what-you-can basis. Durant added, “it was very important to us to make this show as accessible as possible. The pandemic has affected everyone differently, so that was very much at the forefront of our minds when deciding how to sell tickets. We’re also delighted that we’re able to offer subtitled, signed and audio-described versions of the show.”
Hansel and Gretel will be performed by Elisha Covell and Jack Blakey who appeared in the 2019 Courtyard Christmas show Elves and The Shoemaker.
Directed by Durant, Hansel and Gretel will be staged in the Courtyard’s main house on Sunday 6 December at 4PM and will be recorded by a film production company. Afterwards it will be available on demand.
