The Highlights Rural Touring Scheme returns to the North East this autumn with a season of 10 shows touring to 22 rural village halls and community venues from October to December.

The Shows

  • Gav Cross – Twisted Tales for Terrible Children
    Childhood stories and rhymes are given a hilarious twist in this storytelling show from performer and storyteller Gav Cross which is jam-packed full of fables and morbid songs.
  • Scottish Dance Theatre - Antigone Interrupted
    All the drama, passion and big ideas of a Greek tragedy into a one-woman show, created specifically for village halls. Mixing dance with storytelling and sprinkled with a dash of humour.
  • Carol W Productions – Haddock and Chips
    Set in a busy chip shop, this funny and heart-warming new play by Janet Plater tells the timely tale of a North East community pulling together through a crisis.
  • Multi Story Theatre - Hefted
    A powerful tale about the rural experience and the ties that bind communities to the land.
  • Kate Fox – Bigger on the Inside
    A very funny and smart show from poet and BBC Radio 4 regular Kate Fox exploring autism and neurodiversity through the theme of Doctor Who.
  • Bojangles – Dracula in Space
    In an action packed journey of physical theatre, comedy and music, this internationally acclaimed string quartet blast into the cosmos to meet a mysterious benefactor who makes them a curious proposition. All seems to be going okay until their lead violinist starts acting strangely.
  • Pentabus Theatre – Jacaranda
    Two unlikely strangers are brought together on a night that will change their lives forever. Set in a rural village, it explores race, prejudice and what it means to belong.
  • Tutti Frutti – Princess and the Pea
    A new adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s The Princess and the Pea explores the idea of what it means to be a real princess.
  • Spiltmilk Dance – Desert Island Flicks
    Two leading ladies take on 90 films in 90 minutes in a hilarious dance performance that celebrates a century of cinema.
  • Alison Neil - Larks and Magic
    A one-woman play bringing the colourful, scandalous and tempestuous private life of Victorian children’s author E. Nesbit (The Railway Children and Five Children and It) to life.
