Circus artists from FlameOz will light up Hippodrome Square on Friday and Saturday

Birmingham Hippodrome is to present three free nights of interactive light artworks in the city’s Southside.

The Lanterns of Terracotta Warriors Exhibition, originally created for the Beijing Olympics, can be seen in Birmingham for the first time.

The exhibition, in the Gallan car park on Hurst Street, contains more than 90 larger-than-life figures which slowly light up to create “an atmospheric and thought-provoking experience”.

An event called Illuminate will feature a 360-degree film igloo which visitors will be able to enter. There will be 3D films covering sport, dance, music and movement.

Illuminate will culminate in a new commission: Echolia, a collaboration between choreographer Sonia Sabri and new media artist Andy McKeown.

Sarah Allen, the Hippodrome’s creative programme manager, said, “We’re absolutely delighted to be bringing this event to Southside and transforming the area into a spectacular light experience.

“The three nights will offer visitors a unique experience not seen in Southside before.”

Performances and exhibitions are in walking distance of one another.

Illuminate takes place from 6 until 10PM on Friday and Saturday (25 and 26 October) and from 6 until 8PM on Sunday (27 October).
