The Customs House in South Shields is staging a new play by its young writer-in-residence Holly Readshaw in June.

Where Did All The Magpies Go? will be staged in the main auditorium as the finale of the Takeover Festival June 2.

Holly is a writer and performer from Gateshead whose debut play Once a Dunstoner, Always a Dunstoner was performed at Newcastle’s Live Theatre as a part of Your Voice: North East. Her second play, Lost Property, was produced by Squiggle Productions and performed at The Central Bar in Gateshead as part of Four New Plays.

During her time at university, Holly wrote a comedy sketch show for YouTube called Why Did the Chicken? which included a range of sketches from retellings of classic jokes to satire. She also wrote and performed for From Snowflake to Avalanche.

Holly’s work later took a larger focus on life in the North East with a solo project entitled The Next Station Is…, which welcomed the audience on an immersive metro journey through Newcastle City Centre to Gateshead while listening to the stories and opinions of a fellow passenger. This was the basis for her next project, Heed My Words.

Where Did All the Magpies Go? is a comedy about what the world would be like if Gateshead and Newcastle did not exist.
