From Ugly Sister to Widow Twankey: James Holmes

James Holmes has confirmed he will return to Buxton Opera House at Christmas 2020 for his sixth consecutive panto as dame.

In 2019 he played Ugly Sister Ivana in Cinderella. He is to return to a more traditional dame role in 2020 as Widow Twankey in Aladdin.

Aladdin is sometimes performed in an Arabian setting but director and writer Philip Dart intends to move the story to ancient China.

He said, “China is the more traditional location for Aladdin and we’re lucky to have a wow-factor stage set that will create a magical, glittering backdrop to the action.”

More than a quarter of the seats have already been sold for the Christmas Eve matinée. Aladdin runs at Buxton Opera House from Saturday 12 December until Friday 1 January 2021.
