Company of Angels’s Theatre Café festival is set to open in York this week.
Featuring staged readings, debates and discussions of new European plays for young people, the festival this year celebrates its tenth anniversary.
The UK leg of the venture is a collaboration between Company of Angels, York Theatre Royal and the University of York, and the first in a series of five international events over the course of 2014-15.
It sees experienced practitioners from the world of professional theatre teaming up with theatre students from the University to produce staged readings of award-winning contemporary European plays alongside response pieces by six emerging British playwrights.
The panel discussions will include York Theatre Royal’s Artistic Director, Damian Cruden, chairing a debate on the EU as ‘A Cultural or Financial Union?’
The festival opens with reduced-price open dress rehearsals on the 26 February, and runs a varied programme culminating on Saturday 1 March. Ticket information can be found on the Company of Angels web site.
