Virginia Ironside

Theatregoers will be welcomed to the Blue Rinse Mountains of Virginia when they step into The Dukes in Lancaster on May 2.

Best known as an agony aunt, Virginia Ironside has penned and performs her show Growing Old Disgracefully for one night only.

Tickets are already selling fast for this one woman show, directed by Nigel Planer, in which Virginia, 68, aims to prove that you can have the best and funniest time of your life in your sixties thanks to unlimited free drugs, fun funerals, grandchildren and sex or, even better, no sex.

The audience can quiz Virginia further during a free post-show talk-back.

During her career, she has worked at Vogue, the Sunday Telegraph, the Daily Mail (as a rock columnist), Woman magazine, the Sunday Mirror and Today (as an agony columnist).
She now has a weekly column in the Independent and a monthly one in the Oldie.

She made her stage debut in 2009 when she premièred Growing Old Disgracefully at the Edinburgh Festival.

Here it is the latest in a series of events organised by The Dukes, supported by Age UK Lancashire to offer older people and their families increased access to the arts although the show is open to anyone.
