A panel of eight judges has been appointed for Northampton Royal and Derngate and HighTide Festival Theatre’s new play competition.
A contest will be held to commission a play which examines life outside major cities. It will be an original piece which “explores and has its roots in those towns and rural communities that make up the majority of the population”.
James Dacre, artistic director of Royal and Derngate, and Steven Atkinson, artistic director of HighTide, are on the panel.
They will be joined by Sudha Bhuchar of Tamasha Theatre Company; Sebastian Born from the National Theatre; Bush Theatre’s Madani Younis; and playwrights Timberlake Wertenbaker, Alecky Blythe and Amanda Whittington.
Entries are open for the new award. Writers who have a “demonstrable commitment” to writing for the stage may apply.
Application forms are available to download from Royal and Derngate’s web site. The closing date for entries is 6PM on 10 February.
