More families facing financial hardship and more children spending Christmas in hospital benefited after Coventry’s Belgrade exceeded its target for its Give the Gift of Theatre campaign.

The theatre was looking for £7,325 to provide 300 tickets to families referred to the Belgrade through the Coventry Food Bank so that they could see the panto Jack and the Beanstalk.

But, thanks to the generosity of more than 1,000 individuals and businesses, the campaign raised £8,900, meaning almost 400 tickets were distributed.

The Belgrade also raised enough money to fund a streamed broadcast of Jack and the Beanstalk into hospitals, hospices and nursing homes.

David Jane, the Belgrade’s development director, said, “We’re so pleased to have exceeded the target.

“I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who donated and helped provide people who are facing a challenging Christmas time with a treat that they won’t forget.”

The theatre’s Give the Gift of Theatre campaign will continue to run throughout the year to provide people who are facing challenging circumstances with free tickets to suitable Belgrade shows.
