“Huge asset”: Paul Kerryson

Paul Kerryson, former artistic director of Leicester’s Curve theatre, has been appointed interim executive director of the trust which runs Buxton Opera House and the town’s Pavilion Arts Centre.

Kerryson replaces Simon Glynn who left in September 2016 after two years as chief executive.

Kerryson became artistic director of the Haymarket Theatre, Leicester in 1991, later guiding the artistic vision for the creation of Curve which opened in 2008.

He was responsible for many of the city’s biggest shows, attracting world famous artists and producers including Akram Khan, Cameron Mackintosh, Emma Rice, Harvey Weinstein, Matthew Bourne and Stephen Sondheim. He stepped down from Curve at the end of 2014.

In 2015 Kerryson was awarded an MBE in the new year honours and he received the UK Theatre award for outstanding contribution to British theatre in 2014.

He said, “having lived near the glorious Buxton Opera House for the past 20 years, I feel it’s a great privilege to be appointed as interim executive director. I’m looking forward to working with the talented Buxton Opera House team to enhance the local and national reputation of this great venue.

“I’ll be seeking creative partnerships to bring the very best in a wide range of high-quality productions to the Opera House and to provide a platform for local talent, participation and learning at the heart of the programme.”

High Peak Theatre Trust chairman Carol Prowse said, “Paul’s expertise and knowledge of the arts will be a huge asset and we look forward to working with him.”

Kerryson will join the organisation on Monday 5 December.
