Award-winning playwright Frank Bramwell will present his fifth sequel to Shakespeare’s plays at Buxton Fringe, King Lear (Alone).

Bramwell has jettisoned the other 29 characters of the original, allowing audiences to get inside the thoughts and feelings of Lear himself.

The play takes as its starting point Kent’s question: “Is this the promised end?” It follows Lear’s spiritual journey after Cordelia’s death and re-examines Shakespeare’s themes and insights from a completely different angle.

King Lear (Alone) will be presented at the Old Clubhouse (Venue 21) at Buxton on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 July at 9:45PM and Saturday 25 July at 7:30PM.

It will then be performed as part of Birmingham Fest at the Old Joint Stock Theatre on Wednesday 29 and Friday 31 July at 7PM and at St Paul’s Church in the Jewellery Quarter, Birmingham on Tuesday 28 and Thursday 30 July at 7PM.
