Lancaster Arts next month debuts the Festival of Questions—a series of talks, panel discussions, workshops and cultural projects designed to stimulate debate on key social, economic and political questions.

Key events bring prominent thinkers to Lancaster, including political commentator Owen Jones, historian David Kynaston, journalist David Goodhart, writer Melissa Benn, artist Season Butler, campaigner Alvin Carpio and Lancaster University’s Vice Chancellor, the Rt Hon Alan Milburn MP.

Speakers will reflect on questions such as,

  • The War in Syria: How Should the World Respond?
  • Do Young People Stand a Chance in Modern Britain?
  • Is the Internet Good for Feminism?
  • Should We Welcome Refugees?
  • In What Ways can Older People Challenge Loneliness?

The festival centres around two day-long events of panels and keynotes, presented in partnership with Modern Culture at the Storey venue in Lancaster.

Day of Questions 1 will be held on the Saturday February 6 and Day of Questions 2 on Saturday February 20.

Alongside, Lancaster Arts presents an international combined arts programme at The Storey. This includes: Bristol performance duo Action Hero presents Extraordinary Rendition, a one-two-one piece of immersive theatre which simulates Guantanamo Bay via karaoke; Sarah Vanhee’s Oblivion (UK première) reflects on the waste generated by western consumer habits; Tania El Khoury’s Gardens Speak, an interactive sound installation and "interior garden".
