Brighton Festival has announced that its Guest Director for 2016 will be pioneering artist and musician Laurie Anderson as the Festival marks its fiftieth year.

Laurie Anderson's eclectic, multi-disciplinary career has spanned the worlds of art, theatre and experimental music, creating works as a writer, director visual artist and vocalist. Most recently, Anderson's first feature film in almost 30 years, Heart of a Dog, reflects on the deaths of her husband Lou Reed, her mother and her dog and such diverse subject as family memories, surveillance and Buddhist teachings.

Anderson was been described by Brighton Festival 2015 Guest Director Ali Smith as, "the performance artist, singer, musician, artist of our lifetime I think—a great great figure of liberty and liberation of the arts."

The 50th Brighton Festival, which will take place from 7 to 29 May 2016, will feature new works from Anderson alongside exclusives, world and UK premières from a wide range of international, national and local artists and companies.
