The Library Theatre Company in Manchester is looking for three writers to work on Stories on a Shoestring, a week-long drama and playwriting project this summer for Year 5 pupils—one of the ‘trail-blazing’ events in the run-up to the 2014 Manchester Children’s Book Festival.

Stories on a Shoestring takes place in three schools between July 8-12, and will see pupils working with a professional drama practitioner and playwright to produce their own play script, which will be published in a brand new book of plays by Manchester Metropolitan University.

One writer will be assigned to each school, alongside a drama facilitator, to deliver a series of five two-hour drama and writing workshops exploring storytelling, playwrighting and fairy tales. After working with the pupils for a week, writers will then have the weekend to finish their play ready for submission.

Applicants must have experience of writing for children and young audiences, facilitating writing workshops, be an emerging writer aged between 20-35, be available during daytimes week starting July 8 and be available over the following weekend.

The Library Theatre offers a one-off fee of £1000. Closing date is June 3.
