Thousands of people watched more than 20 acts stage outdoor performances as part of the nine-day SO Festival in Lincolnshire.

Festival director Lorna Fulton said, “we’re delighted that so many people braved the wind and the rain to support the festival. Its aim is to bring the arts to towns and communities that wouldn’t normally have access to free performances and street acts, as well as raising the profile of market towns in East Lincolnshire as areas of culture and excitement.”

The festival, in its eighth year, visited Mablethorpe, Horncastle, Alford, Louth, Spilsby and Woodhall Spa before finishing in Skegness. This year’s opening night was hosted in Mablethorpe for the first time—statistically one of the UK’s most deprived areas.

Mark Humphreys, managing director of Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure and Culture, which organised the festival, said, “hosting the opening night in Mablethorpe was a major decision. We took some of our most exciting acts to the market town including performances from Flame Oz and Avanti Display.”

The 2017 SO Festival will take place from 24 June to 2 July.
