Comedy duo LipService explore the secret world of famous female writers in Mr Darcy Loses the Plot when they bring their latest touring production to Oldham Coliseum Theatre from January 18 to 21.
Whether scribbling in secret or under pseudonyms, squeezing in their writing amongst the hustle and bustle of taking tea, choosing chintz and having the vapours, Jane Austen sits writing at her desk.
She’s dreaming up a proud, lip-curling, handsome creation in very tight pants. But then a visitor approaches and Jane hastily hides her work. Left to his own devices, he embroiders his own storyline while his creator embroiders her doilies. When Jane returns to her writing, she finds Mr Darcy dancing to a different tune!
Maggie Fox and Sue Ryding have been writing and performing together since 1985. They have written several original comedies for the stage, had their own comedy series on BBC Radio 4 and appeared many times on television.
Their awards include a Writers’ Guild Award, two Critics Awards at Edinburgh Festival and a Manchester Theatre Award. For Mr Darcy Loses the Plot, their research has included visits to Gaskell House and Jane Austen’s House.
