Winter Tales

Winter Tales, an online version of Newcastle venue Live Theatre’s popular education strand, Live Tales, will be available to KS2 teachers in November and December.

In four weekly Zoom sessions, the Live Tales Team will support teachers' lesson plans to explore creative writing exercises, games and play. The aim is to spark pupils' imaginations to create a completely original winter story with each class.

Throughout the four weeks, a Live Tales illustrator will create unique pictures to bring each class's story, setting and characters to life in full colour. The illustrator will also send bespoke video messages to each class to keep pupils excited and engaged about their tale.

At the end of the sessions, Live Theatre will post full colour illustrated copies of each completed winter tale, one for each pupil to take home as a gift and one for the classroom.

The sessions, which are free, will be on Thursdays 12, 19 and 26 November and Thursday 4 December. All sessions will run from 4:00 to 5:30.

FAQs for teachers are on the Live Tales section of Live Theatre's web site. With only 15 spaces available, teachers are advised to register their interest early. The deadline for booking is 6 November 2020. To register, e-mail [email protected].

“Sadly, COVID-19 restrictions have meant that Live Theatre has been unable to deliver our hugely popular Live Tales creative writing workshops at our Newcastle and Sunderland studios,” said Helen Green, Children and Young People’s Lead at Live Theatre. “Many teachers have told us that they have really missed Live Tales so we came up with the idea of Winter Tales. This interactive and unique lesson plan is a fantastic opportunity to get behind the scenes of Live Tales and bring smiles and excitement to the children in the run up to Christmas.”
