Liverpool’s Royal Court continues its search for new scriptwriting talent with a second year of its Playwright Development Programme.
Since November 2018, the theatre has been running Stage Wright Nights in the venue’s studio. Scripts are submitted to be read by professional actors under the guidance of a professional director.
This has been the starting point for a number of studio and main house productions including: Masquerade, Pig, Knee Deep in Promises, My Fairfield Lady and Yellow Breck Road.
In a bid to find more new writers, a team led by producer Jess Bolger set up a development programme last year. Fortnightly meetings were face to face, then moved to Zoom when lockdown began.
Now led by Karen Brown, a professional screen, stage and radio writer, a new course will begin in February and meet two evenings a month for nine months. The programme is completely free and open to anyone living or studying in Merseyside.
Individuals need to submit a 10-page sample of writing for theatre. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a chat either online or face to face.
Application closing date is November 30.
