Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre has an autumn programme of work fuelled by love in which classics and contemporary playwriting sit side by side.
In September Tamasha’s Pooja Ghai and writer Tanika Gupta present a Dickens’s classic reworked for Manchester audiences, Great Expectations. Nicholai La Barrie makes his Exchange debut with the greatest love story of all time, Romeo & Juliet, and Sarah Frankcom returns at Christmas with a tale of forbidden love, Brief Encounter. The season ends with a world première of Phoebe Eclair-Powell’s new play and a Bruntwood winner, Shed: Exploded View, directed by Atri Banerjee.
