Malvern Theatres is to build a new 240-seat auditorium to accommodate more community productions and other work, as part of a £20m upgrade of its facilities.
The project also includes improved access and an elevator from its parkside entrance, a recording studio, workshop spaces, a small outdoor amphitheatre and improvements to its Forum theatre, particularly to help people with mobility issues.
The new auditorium is in addition to the main Festival Theatre, Cinema and recently added Studio one, all of which will operate as normal when work starts, scheduled for summer 2025.
The government-funded project, designed by architects Burrell Foley Fischer, is led by Malvern Hills District Council, which this week granted planning permission.
Malvern Theatres executive director Fred Moroni said the work would transform the venue "into a nationally significant centre of excellence for the arts."
Cllr John Gallagher said the "further investment in this wonderful facility... will expand access to the arts, improve wellbeing, increase education and employment opportunities [and] boost tourism and economy within the area."
