Malvern Theatres has launched a COVID-19 appeal fund after warning of a devastating loss for audiences, the local community and economy if they were to close long-term.

The theatre, a charity with only 1% of its turnover publicly funded, said its income had disappeared overnight and that emergency reserves built over years would soon run dry.

“We have taken every possible step to reduce our monthly overheads but the next few months will be critical for our survival,” chief executive Nic Lloyd said.

“The loss of Malvern Theatres would be devastating, not just to our loyal audiences, but also to our local community and economy. To avoid this fate, we must act now and work quickly to ensure that we are ready to reopen when allowed.

“Through our COVID-19 Appeal, we aim to raise vital funds to ensure that Malvern Theatres will be here in the future to welcome our audiences once again.

“As we emerge from this pandemic, we are poised to play a crucial role in helping to bring communities back together, healing the wounds of social isolation by embracing shared cultural experiences once more.”

Supporters can send a cheque payable to Malvern Theatres, Grange Road, Great Malvern, Worcestershire WR14 3HB, or contact Emma Maggs at [email protected] for details on paying by bank transfer.
