The project to restore the original windows and façade of the Grade II-listed Opera House in Manchester, which began in spring 2023, has now been completed.
The work included "extensive repairs to the render, brickwork, windows and ironmongery fixings alongside the replacement of rainwater goods" and use of lime render for weatherproofing to replace the existing concrete render.
Layers of old paint have been analysed to match the original colour scheme of the front of the venue when it opened as The New Theatre in 1912. There has also been work to the star dressing rooms, backstage areas, the Ambassador Lounge and toilets, plus to the lighting and ventilation systems.
This is part of a total £4.5m capital investment between the Opera House and its fellow ATG Theatres Manchester venue, the Palace Theatre.
