Television presenter, comedienne and writer Mel Giedroyc will appear in a new musical, The Opinion Makers, a co-production between Derby Theatre and the Mercury Theatre, Colchester.

She will play Lassiter in the show which has been penned by Brian Mitchell and Joseph Nixon. Mercury Theatre artistic director Daniel Buckroyd will direct.

Mel Giedroyc said, “I’m thrilled to join the cast. The Opinion Makers is a brilliantly funny show and I’m sure audiences in Derby will absolutely love it.”

Daniel Buckroyd added, “Mel is a fantastic comedy actress with a huge breadth of experience. She’s certain to add a huge amount to the role of Lassiter and we’re delighted to have her on board.”

Mitchell and Nixon have assembled a chaotic cast of characters for this new musical comedy which is centred on an incompetent team at a market research company.

The Opinion Makers also features Julie Atherton who has starred in numerous West End hit musicals including Mamma Mia, Fame and Avenue Q, and David Mountfield as hen-pecked businessman Mr Campbell.

The Opinion Makers runs at Derby Theatre from Wednesday 13 until Saturday 23 November.
