Tabs Productions stages the four-week Colin McIntyre Classic Thriller Season at the Theatre Royal, Nottingham, with Nicholas Briggs’s adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Jekyll and Hyde being the first production from Monday until Saturday.

Buxton Opera House hosts a week of G and S, with the National Gilbert and Sullivan Opera Company returning with The Mikado on Tuesday, The Gondoliers on Wednesday and HMS Pinafore on Thursday and Saturday, while South African company Cape Town G and S Society stages The Mikado on Friday.

The Old Joint Stock Musical Theatre Company presents its summer musical Dogfight, “a story of war and loss, where love turns up in the ugliest of places”, at the Old Joint Stock Theatre, Birmingham on Wednesday.

The Gatehouse Theatre summer school production of The Wizard of Oz follows the yellow brick road to Stafford Gatehouse Theatre from Wednesday until Saturday.

Heartbreak Productions takes its adaptation of David Walliams’s Mr Stink to the Shugborough Estate, Staffordshire on Wednesday, St Johns House Museum, St Johns, Warwick on Friday and Nottingham Castle on Saturday and Sunday.

Alexandra Burke plays the lead role of Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard which muscles into Birmingham Hippodrome from Wednesday until Saturday 5 September.

The Babbling Vagabonds adapt three tales from the Brothers Grimm in Rumple-Trumpy-Bum and Other Cheeky Chappies at Markeaton Park Craft Village, Derby from Thursday until Saturday.

Combining music, dance, stage combat and physicality with the original script, Madcap Productions stages Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Artrix, Bromsgrove, Worcestershire on Saturday.

At the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, Hugh Quarshie and Lucian Msamati team up to play Othello and Iago in Iqbal Khan’s production of Othello which continues in the Royal Shakespeare Theatre until Friday 28 August and plays in repertoire with The Merchant of Venice which continues until Wednesday 2 September; in the Swan Theatre, Christopher Marlowe’s The Jew of Malta continues until Tuesday 8 September and Volpone until Saturday 12 September.
