Bold Text Playwrights return to Birmingham REP with tales of British tourists caught up in events beyond their control in a series of micro-plays, Sunstroke, on Monday.

Agatha Christie’s record-breaking play The Mousetrap returns to Derngate, Northampton from Monday until Saturday.

Dance “superstar” Sylvie Guillem gives her final UK performances in Life in Progress, featuring both existing and new works by choreographers who have influenced her career, at Birmingham Hippodrome on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Nottingham Theatre Royal’s community ensemble the Royal Company will revive Sheridan’s School for Scandal, the first production on the Theatre Royal stage in 1865, from Tuesday until Saturday.

A new production of the musical Hairspray, directed by former Leicester Curve artistic director Paul Kerryson and featuring Tony Maudsley as Edna Turnblad, Claire Sweeney, Peter Duncan, Brenda Edwards and Ashley Gilmour, starts a major UK tour at Curve from Wednesday until Saturday 19 September.

Cast Ensemble Youth Theatre performs Amanda Whittington’s Be My Baby in the Assembly Rooms, Melbourne, Derbyshire, as part of Melbourne Festival, on Thursday.

Buxton Opera House hosts Jeeves and Wooster in Perfect Nonsense, adapted from the works of P G Wodehouse, from Thursday until Saturday.

An “immersive dance experience which hits all the right notes, a double-bill combining sheer physicality and theatrical intentions with inventive choreography”, Taksim Square is “a poignant piece inspired by the popular protests in Turkey” while Out of touch “reflects on the nature of touch and its physical and emotional resonance” in Autin Dance Theatre’s Pathos at mac birmingham on Friday.

Krissi Bohn performs Kay Adshead’s The Bogus Woman, a “powerful, poetic and heart-wrenching play” about an African woman who arrives in a strange country fleeing for her life, seeking safety and asylum, in Derby Theatre Studio on Saturday.

A “one-man show about love, loss, and motorways, in turn hilarious and disarmingly poignant”, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Family involves Ben Norris battling service stations and the perils of lower-league football in search of the man who became his father in the Hexagon Theatre at mac birmingham on Saturday.

The Russian State Ballet and Opera House presents Verdi’s La Traviata, sung in Italian with English surtitles, at Lincoln Theatre Royal on Saturday.

New Vic legend Eric returns with his company of actors, singers and musicians in a “tale of sun, sangria and senoritas filled with comedy and the greatest hits of the 1960s” in Eric in Benidorm! which continues at the New Vic, Newcastle-under-Lyme until Saturday.

At the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford, in the Swan Theatre Christopher Marlowe’s The Jew of Malta continues until Tuesday 8 September and Volpone until Saturday 12 September.

Robert Powell plays the title role in the regional premiere of Mike Bartlett’s play King Charles III which continues at Birmingham REP until Saturday 19 September (press night Tuesday 8 September).

Sarah Crowe, Rosemary Ashe and Kirsty Malpass feature in Maureen Chadwick’s new musical Crush whose UK première continues at the Belgrade Theatre, Coventry until Saturday 19 September.

The world première of a stage adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s ground-breaking novel Brave New World continues at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate until Saturday 26 September (press night Tuesday 8 September).
