Derby Theatre has appointed Caroline Barth as its new head of learning.

She has just left her position as creative school consultant for The Mighty Creatives, the regional development agency for young people’s creativity which is based in Leicester.

After gaining a BA honours degree in English and drama at Sheffield University, Caroline Barth formed and ran her own Sheffield-based theatre-in-education company Pageant Theatre.

Pageant toured curriculum- and issue-based shows to primary and secondary schools for three years.

Numerous roles followed including director of Creative Partnerships, Derby—part of a national programme to support creativity across the curriculum in schools and colleges—head of education at Theatre Royal Stratford East in East London and education and outreach manager at the Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch.

Her role at Derby Theatre will involve her working closely with and alongside artistic director Sarah Brigham and theatre arts academic staff, lecturers and students.

Sarah Brigham said, “I’m delighted to welcome Caroline to the theatre’s senior management team.

“As we move forward with our ambitious plan to become a unique resource which produces professional theatre and also has a learning vision at its heart, Caroline’s role will be key.

“She brings with her a host of experience and I look forward to welcoming her to the team.”
