Inspired by the true story of a recording session featuring Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis and Elvis Presley, Million Dollar Quartet is to go on its first UK tour, starting at Curve, Leicester.
The show includes more than 20 rock ‘n’ roll hits including “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Hound Dog”, “I Walk the Line” and “Great Balls of Fire”.
On 4 December 1956 history was made when four young musicians gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest impromptu jam sessions ever.
Million Dollar Quartet is written by Tony Award nominees Colin Escott and Floyd Mutrux and produced by Simon Friend and Mark Goucher. Ian Talbot OBE, renowned for his tenure as both artistic and managing director of Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, directs.
It runs at Curve from 14 until 24 September. It then tours to Lyceum Theatre Sheffield, Theatre Royal Nottingham, Festival Theatre Malvern, Birmingham Hippodrome, Festival Theatre Edinburgh, Grand Theatre Leeds, King’s Theatre Glasgow, Mayflower Theatre Southampton and Hippodrome Theatre Bristol.
In 2017 Million Dollar Quartet will tour to Richmond Theatre, Theatre Royal Newcastle and Cliffs Pavilion Southend. Further dates will be announced.
