Following its well-received debut at the Belfast Children’s Festival in March this year, Patrick J O’Reilly and composer Garth McConaghie’s Mirrorball for Replay Theatre is to return for a week-long run at the city’s Lyric Theatre in September.
The revival sees Matt Cavan returning to the semi-autobiographical piece in the guise of his drag queen alter ego, Cherrie Ontop, in a show that “celebrates creativity, authenticity and the power of the imagination to make a better world for ourselves”.
He will be supported by Northern Irish theatre luminaries Gerard McCabe, Richard Croxford, Jack Watson and Colette Lennon.
Replay Theatre's artistic director, Janice Kernoghan Reid, directs for the company as it celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2023, with choreography by Eileen McClory, Diana Ennis providing set and costumes, Gavin Peden contributing video design, and lighting by Jonathan M Daley.
Cavan, Mirrorball’s co-creator and star, says: “the blessing of being an artist is being able to take difficult things from your life and create art, hopefully something that will leave a lasting impact. It’s a scary thing to put your life on stage, but I feel we’ve created something very special that I am really excited to share with our audiences at the Lyric again this autumn.”
Mirrorball runs at Belfast’s Lyric Theatre from September 15 to 21.
