Birmingham Rep has revealed more details about the cast of Becoming Nancy, a “coming-of-age story about first love, friendship and finding your voice”, which will have its UK première in October 2024.
Latest cast members are Layla Armstrong-Hughes (Marcia Tubbert), Shannon Bourne (ensemble), Elliot Copeland (swing and dance captain), Joseph Craig (ensemble), Jessica Daugirda (swing), Isaac Elder (Squirrel), Cameron Gabriel (ensemble), Tom Andrew Hargreaves (bus conductor, Mr Boswell and ensemble), Ollie Hart-Bradford (ensemble), Sebastian Harwood (Jason Lancaster), Lucas Impey (Dennis Gordon), Jordan Isaac (swing) Peter Lavery (ensemble), Dominique McIntyre (Chrissie Starr), Zara McLellan (ensemble), Richard Meek (Bob Lord), Rachel Rawlinson (Muriel, Mrs Boswell and ensemble) and Harry Warburton (ensemble).
They join the already announced Joseph Peacock (David Starr), Joseph Vella (Maxie Boswell), Paige Peddie (Frances Bassey), Rebecca Trehearn (Kath Starr), Genevieve Nicole (Aunt Val), Mathew Craig (Eddie Starr), Stephen Ashfield (Hamish McClarnon) and Daisy Greenwood (Abigail Henson).
This new musical has a book by Elliot Davis, music by George Stiles, lyrics by Anthony Drewe and additional music and lyrics by Terry Ronald, Elliot Davis and George Stiles. It is based on Terry Ronald’s novel and will be directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell.
Mitchell said, “Becoming Nancy requires a lot of young, fresh talent and I'm so excited to introduce these incredible young performers to British audiences alongside some spectacular West End stars. This beautiful story about finding your true self and the spotlight each of us deserves is going to be a joy to share with audiences of all ages.”
The creative team includes David Rockwell and T J Greenway (co-set design), Jean Chan (costume design), Philip Rosenberg (lighting design), Tony Gayle (sound design), Dick Straker (video design), Susanna Peretz (hair and make-up design) and Steve Anderson (musical supervision and arrangements). Casting is by Jill Green CDG, Tom Shiels and Olivia Laydon.
Becoming Nancy, which premièred at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta, will run at Birmingham Rep from Wednesday 2 October until Saturday 2 November. Press night will be Tuesday 15 October.
