Buxton Fringe has announced that the 2019 festival when it celebrates its 40th year will be longer than usual—a full three weeks.
The Fringe traditionally begins on a Wednesday and finishes two-and-a-half weeks later. But in a bid to celebrate Fringe40 and to allow more time for family events after schools break up, the committee has decided to extend the Fringe by three days. The 2019 festival will run from Wednesday 3 until Wednesday 24 July.
Buxton Fringe began in 1980. Entries numbered six for dance, five for drama, 28 for music and there were 17 “miscellaneous” entries. The 2018 Fringe featured more than 180 entrants.
Fringe chair Keith Savage said, “we’re already working with a number of partners to make the 2019 July festival special and memorable. As the town will be in the public eye more than ever, the Fringe is excited to have the chance to give visitors and performers the richest possible experience.”
The Fringe will be open for entries on 1 December 2018.
