Birmingham Rep has revealed details of additional drama and dance productions to join its spring 2025 programme.
The Intrusion, a new collaboration between theatre company Bric à Brac and the Rep’s long-time collaborator Told by an Idiot, can be seen in March. Inspired by Kafka, The Intrusion is a “highly theatrical fable which fuses elements of the real and the fantastic, the documentary and the dream.” It will be performed in the Rep’s performance space The Door on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 March.
Phoenix Dance Theatre, the UK’s longest-established contemporary dance company outside London, will bring Inside Giovanni’s Room, a full-length dance piece inspired by James Baldwin’s novel Giovanni’s Room, to the Rep on Wednesday 28 May.
Phoenix’s artistic director and choreographer Marcus Jarrell Willis reimagines Baldwin’s narrative into a piece set in 1950s Paris, delving into themes of love, sexuality, guilt and self-acceptance.
The Rep’s recently reappointed associate director Iqbal Khan will return to the Rep’s main stage with a new stage adaptation of Marriage Material, written by Gurpreet Kaur Bhatti and adapted from the debut novel of West Midlands-born author Sathnam Sanghera. It will run from Wednesday 25 June until Saturday 5 July.
