Così fan tutte

Opera returns to The Sage Gateshead in July as Nevill Holt Opera presents Mozart’s Così fan tutte. Directed by Adele Thomas and accompanied by the Royal Northern Sinfonia, the production will be in Sage One on 5 and 6 July.

The title translates as “All women behave like that” and it’s a comment on the (lack of) faithfulness of women made by the philosopher Don Alfonso to the two soldiers Ferrando and Guglielmo who are very sure that their fiancées (Dorabella and Fiordiligi) will always be faithful to them. And this opera buffa (comic opera) proves him right.

It premièred in January 1790; Mozart died in December the following year.

The cast will be Alexandra Lowe (Fiordiligi), Katie Coventry (Dorabella), Nick Pritchard (Ferrando), Martin Hassler (Guglielmo), Carolina Lippo (Despina) and John Molloy (Don Alfonso). Nicholas Chalmers will conduct the Royal Northern Sinfonia.

Tickets (£10–£50) are now on sale. The performances start at 7:00.
