The Haçienda Tales

Two new dramas celebrate the musical history of the city at the third Greater Manchester Fringe Festival, July 1-31.

This Is Manchester is a multimedia experience written and performed by Luke Richards, a performance and theatre student from the University of Salford, who originally performed it as part of his course.

The 21-year-old, who has his own performance group The Rorschach Test Presents, said that this is his “love letter to both Manchester and the bands it has produced over the years”.

Embodying the persona of Mr Manchester himself, Anthony H Wilson, Luke brings both a comedic and theatrical portrayal of the flamboyant reporter and entrepreneur.

This is Manchester is at the Apotheca Bar in the Northern Quarter on July 15-16.

Meanwhile The Haçienda Tales at Joshua Brooks on Saturday July 26 invites its audience to eavesdrop on the conversations between strangers as they first meet on their way to the famed Manchester superclub.

Written by former Manchester University student Philip Stuchberry and Sophie Tickle, The Haçienda Tales takes its inspiration from Geoffrey Chaucer’s The Canterbury Tales, transporting its characters to the Madchester scene of 1991.
