“The UK’s first outdoor festival dedicated to all things stagey”, the inaugural Gaiety Musical Theatre Festival, has been called off with only two weeks’ notice.

Kerry Ellis, Collabro, Lee Mead and Marisha Wallace were among the acts due to appear at the festival at Ragley Hall, Alcester, Warwickshire.

A statement on the festival’s web site says, “we are devastated to confirm that the inaugural Gaiety Musical Theatre Festival has been cancelled due to circumstances beyond our control.

“Our team have exhausted all alternative avenues to try to ensure the festival can go ahead in some way but sadly we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel.

“All of us at Gaiety Festival are incredibly disappointed by the news but would like to thank everyone who has worked for months to make the event happen.”
