A co-production between Paines Plough and four theatres which won a Scotsman Fringe First award at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe is preparing for a short tour of England.
Kelly Jones’s play My Mother’s Funeral: The Show “tackles the inequalities around death and the cost of turning your loved ones into art”. Jones is a gay, working-class playwright and neo-burlesque performer from Dagenham.
The cast comprises Samuel Armfield, Debra Baker and Nicole Sawyerr. Paines Plough’s joint artistic director Charlotte Bennett directs. Set and costume design is by Rhys Jarman, lighting design by Joshua Gadsby, sound design by Asaf Zohar, movement direction by Rachael Nanyonjo and dramaturgy by Lauren Mooney. Phillippe Cato is assistant director.
My Mother’s Funeral: The Show is a co-production with Colchester’s Mercury Theatre, Coventry’s Belgrade Theatre, Landmark Theatres and Northampton’s Royal and Derngate.
It will tour to the Theatre Royal Plymouth from Tuesday 10 until Saturday 14 September, Colchester from 17 until 21 September, Bristol Old Vic from 24 until 28 September, The Core at Corby Cube, Northamptonshire on Monday 30 Sept and Tuesday 1 October, Northampton from Thursday 3 until Saturday 5 October and Northern Stage, Newcastle from Thursday 10 until Saturday 12 October.
