A reimagining of the Medieval Mystery Cycles and a guest appearance by “one of the UK’s most exciting and dynamic companies” are among the highlights of the spring and summer season at Warwick-based Playbox Theatre.
Founded in 1986, Playbox is a creative organisation developing theatre for and with young people from its own custom-designed complex, the Dream Factory, in Warwick.
The Mysteries, which has been in development for three years, features a cast of more than 60 and tells the story of mankind from creation to doomsday. It was originally presented by Playbox in 2011 and was staged in Coventry and Gloucester cathedrals.
It will be presented as complete trilogies on Sunday 1 March at the Swan Theatre, Stratford and on Saturday and Sunday, 4 and 5 April, at the Dream Factory. The Passion will also be staged at St Mary’s Church, Warwick on Good Friday, 3 April.
As part of the Warwick Spring 2015 festival, Playbox will welcome Propeller with Pocket Comedy, a 60-minute take on Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors, on Friday 27 February.
Playbox’s Shakespeare Young Company will convert the Dream Factory into an arena for As You Like It which will play in repertoire with Macbeth. The season will open on Shakespeare’s 451st birthday, 23 April.
In July Playbox will again stage The Shadow Roads, a World War I drama written for the company by Toby Quash.
