Mark Smith has stepped down after nine years with Birmingham Hippodrome Development Trust.

Hippodrome chief executive Stuart Griffiths said, “Mark has been an active chair, galvanising support across the city for our various projects.

“Through his passion for theatre and his highly respected work in the business community, Mark played a key part in raising £1m towards our 2012 stage appeal. This led to the Hippodrome stage being replaced after 30 years of performances, securing the future for a whole new generation of theatregoers.”

Martin Guest, who takes over as chair, is managing director of the Birmingham office of property consultants CBRE. He became a Hippodrome trustee in 2011.
