Helen Forrester’s Twopence to Cross the Mersey, in the new format of a straight stage play and based on her best-selling memoir, will première at Liverpool’s Epstein Theatre in March 2015.

It tells the true story of a young girl and her formerly wealthy family as they are thrown into poverty during the Great Depression of the 1930s.

In its earlier format, the musical version of the show had four hugely successful runs at the city’s Empire Theatre, in 2004, 2005, 2007 and 2009 under the helm of Rob Fennah and production company Pulse Records.

Now Pulse will collaborate with new producer Bill Elms and work towards a touring production of the play.
