New musicals to get Northampton showcase

The line-up has been announced for the “UK’s leading showcase for new British musical theatre writing” BEAM2020 which will be held in Northampton.

Extracts of 41 new musicals that are in development will be presented and there will also be masterclasses and panel discussions.

Four musicals will receive a 25-minute showcase at BEAM2020: Black Power Desk by Urielle Klein-Mekong and Richard Melkonian; Fat Boy Swim by Catherine Forde and Michael John McCarthy, also known as Visible Fictions; April de Angelis and Lucy Rivers’s Gin Craze; and On Hostile Ground by Darren Clark, Michael Henry and Juliet Gilkes Romero.

Perfect Pitch, a theatre company dedicated to creating new British musicals, will present You And I by Cordelia O’Driscoll and Tom Williams.

Other musicals will get ten minutes in the spotlight including Samir Bhamra’s Bombay Superstar and Bristol Bus Boycott by Tim Sutton and Roy Williams which is produced by independent theatre studio China Plate.

Co-produced by Mercury Musical Developments and Musical Theatre Network, BEAM2020 will take place at Royal and Derngate, Northampton on Thursday 26 and Friday 27 March. Further information is available at the Mercury Musical Developments web site.
