Working with artists on an individual basis: New Perspectives’ artistic director Jack McNamara

Nottingham-based touring company New Perspectives is inviting applications for early-career artists in the East Midlands to join its new associates programme.

Artists or practitioners working in theatre or live performance can apply. Benefits include developing their work and career through close association with New Perspectives. Nine young practitioners were invited onto the programme in 2019.

Opportunities made available over the year include mentoring, masterclasses, rehearsal space and invitation to company rehearsals.

New Perspectives artistic director Jack McNamara said, “we introduced the New Associates programme to acknowledge and celebrate that all artists have very different needs, skills and dreams.

“With this programme we aim to work with artists on an individual basis, to hone in on what they need for their creative and professional lives, and how our resources and experience can support that.

“Working alongside us flexibly over a year gives artists the time to really work out what they want and how we can help them get there. It’s also a huge benefit to us to be connected with so many exciting creative minds whose imaginations challenge and steer our own path.”

Applications can be downloaded at the New Perspectives web site and should be returned by midday on Monday 30 March.

The company has also produced a short documentary on the 2019 cohort who curated and managed a festival showcasing their work in progress.
