The UK’s “most visited theatre” Birmingham Hippodrome has announced details of some of its new shows for 2017 including the return of the pantomime Cinderella.
Newly announced productions include a UK tour of Hairspray, the high-energy musical Crazy For You with Strictly Come Dancing champion Tom Chambers and the return of La Cage aux Folles with John Partridge and Adrian Zmed. There will also be visits from The Addams Family on its first UK tour and the Olivier Award winner Beautiful—The Carole King Musical.
The Hippodrome’s artistic director and chief executive Fiona Allan said, “spring 2017 marks the return of our hugely popular taster event Dance: Sampled. We’ve brought it back with new acts and dance throughout the building with a line-up of international and local dance talent.
“We also welcome back internationally celebrated choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui with Milonga, a fascinating exploration of Argentine tango with a 21st-century twist. And there’s a return visit by international dance icon Carlos Acosta who launches his new company—Acosta Danza—for its first UK tour.
“We always get the biggest names in West End shows and we’re delighted to welcome back Sheridan Smith as Fanny Brice in Funny Girl.
“Through 2017, we’ll be expanding our schools network, increasing our range of free- and low-cost activity, and opening our doors during the day to engage with the broadest community possible.”
