Upstairs at the Western

Leicester venue Upstairs at the Western is looking for a new team to take over the running of the city's only pub theatre.

In 2012, directors Verity Bartesch, Sally Jack and Gary Phillpott together with a team of volunteers transformed an empty room above The Western pub into a professional venue.

More than 4,500 people have seen theatre, comedy and spoken-word shows or taken part in workshops over the past four years.

The directors’ circumstances have changed and after “much thought and soul-searching” they have decided it is time to hand over the reins to someone new. The current season ends in December and a new team will compile the programme from 2017.

There will be a public meeting for anyone interested in getting involved. It will be held at Upstairs at the Western on Tuesday 11 October at 7:30PM. Alternatively, contact volunteer co-ordinator Iain Baughan at [email protected] for further information.
