A History of Falling Things: the "absurdities of modern life and the complexities of the human condition"

A “21st century love story from one of the country’s finest young writers” is to have its English première at Newcastle-under-Lyme’s New Vic.

James Graham’s A History of Falling Things is described as “truly original, funny and thought-provoking”.

It features two people who fall in love—Robin who writes successful children’s books and Jacqui who used to be something important in the City.

Their houses are only five minutes apart but there’s a problem: neither is able pluck up courage and walk through the front door.

Emma Lucia who directs said, “A History of Falling Things is a charming and witty romantic comedy written by one of Britain’s best young playwrights.

“There’s nothing cynical about James Graham’s writing. He takes delight in sharing on stage with us the absurdities of modern life and the complexities of the human condition.

“He presents great stories and very real characters, and he does this while making us feel that the world’s not such a bad place after all. That’s talent.

“I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be directing it than at the New Vic, one of the most exciting performance spaces in the country.”

The cast features Tom Hurley, Antonia Kinlay, Pamela Merrick, Keiron Self and Llion Williams.

A History of Falling Things runs at the New Vic from Friday 11 until Saturday 26 July.
