A satirical comedy, an enchanting tale for Christmas and a look at life in a northern pub are among the highlights in the autumn and winter season at the New Vic Theatre, Newcastle-under-Lyme.
The Staffordshire theatre-in-the-round comes to order with Moira Buffini’s Handbagged, which tells the story of what might have happened in meetings between Queen Elizabeth and Margaret Thatcher. It will run at the New Vic from Friday 6 until Saturday 28 September.
At Christmas, the theatre’s artistic director Theresa Heskins will adapt and direct Mark Twain’s The Prince and The Pauper from Saturday 16 November until Saturday 25 January.
Alongside it, the New Vic will produce Tale Trail to The Prince and The Pauper, an immersive experience for three- to five-year-olds which will run throughout December.
Ruth Carney will make her New Vic debut to direct Jim Cartwright’s Two, featuring a larger-than-life landlord and landlady who meet a variety of colourful characters in their pub, from Friday 31 January until Saturday 22 February.
