Swashbuckling adventure: The Three Musketeers

Staffordshire’s New Vic is to stage a new version of Alexandre Dumas’s The Three Musketeers at Christmas 2024.

Arguably Dumas’s best-known tale, The Three Musketeers was one of more than 250 novels penned by the French writer and captured imaginations the instant the story entered the public domain. New Vic artistic director Theresa Heskins will adapt Dumas’s original 1844 story, first published in serial form in the French newspaper Le Siècle.

Heskins said, “I was interested to discover Dumas began his writing career as a playwright—no wonder he loves writing action. Theatre-in-the-round loves action, so Dumas’s swashbuckling epic is perfect for the New Vic's unique space.”

The Three Musketeers will run at the New Vic from Friday 15 November until Saturday 25 January 2025.
