Theatre by the Lake in Keswick enjoyed a New Year rush for tickets when booking opened for one of the most varied collections of plays in the theatre’s history.

“What makes the year really special is that it includes two world premières opening within seven days of each other,” said a spokesperson for the theatre “they’re both enthralling stories, unique to Cumbria.”

The new season includes comedy with Mark Watson, the annual injection of KAOS in May with The Hired Man and a whole host of children’s shows, including Northern Ballet’s adaptation of The Tortoise & The Hare.

There is also a line-up of festivals including the silver anniversary of Keswick Jazz Festival, a programme of talks during Words by the Water and Keswick Film Festival. Also on the itinerary is the launch of a weekend-long celebration of folk music, Roots 66, taking place over the first weekend in February.

This year the venue will produce nine of its own plays. The productions will run between March 2016 and early 2017.
