Newcastle’s Theatre Royal has a launched Project A, a one-year training programme for would-be actors aged between 18 and 25.

The course, for which participants must have some acting experience and the ambition of becoming a professional performer, will be run by actor/director Phil Hoffman who is a resident drama worker at Live Theatre, a Performing Arts lecturer at New College, Durham, and an Associate of Just Drama Based Training.

The course will run for three terms. The first, from September to December, will concentrate on the development of vocal, physical and performance skills in relation to creating character through the study, development and performance of contemporary and classical text.

The second term (from January to March) will focus on the development of participant’s specialist skills working with nationally and internationally renowned artists. Each area has been chosen specifically to develop the skills needed in the performance arts industry.

During the final term (April to July) participants will engage in a full time professional production process culminating in performances at the Newcastle Theatre Royal Studio and other venues as a local tour.

The first year of the programme is being supported by the Barbour Foundation and so will be free. Applicants must send a completed application form (available from the theatre's web site) and a headshot to [email protected] by 15 July 2015.
