The annual Nick Darke Award for writing for stage, screen and radio has been launched for this year with with a top prize of £6000, double the award of previous years.
The award is organised and funded by the School of Media and Performance at University College, Falmouth in memory of the playwright whose name the award bears who was born in Cornwall, trained as an actor at Rose Bruford College and had plays produced by the National Theatre the Royal Shakespeare Company, The Bush and the Royal Court as well as writing for radio, TV and film.
This year's judges include Radio 4 drama commissioning editor Jeremy Howe, television documentary director, cinematographer and producer Molly Dineen, theatre, television and film director Roger Michell and associate director (literary) of the National Theatre Sebastian Born.
In the first instance, writers are invited to submit an outline and 20 sample pages of a script on an environmental theme, although the word can be interpreted broadly.
