The opening performance of the world première of To Sir, With Love at Northampton’s Royal and Derngate on Friday (6 September) was cancelled after lead actor Ansu Kabia was knocked off his bike.

Kabia, who plays teacher Ricky Braithwaite, had to have surgery after breaking a finger. He returned to the stage on Saturday.

A Royal and Derngate spokesman said, “Saturday went very well. Ansu has his hand in a plaster cast, but after the first few minutes you stopped noticing that.

“We had pretty much a full house and the play got a great reception from the audience.”

To Sir, With Love continues in Northampton until Saturday 28 September before going on a national tour.
